Install 16: I'm getting an APPDATA Environment Variable error when running the Configure Reference Manager program, and the Reference Manager program itself won't start. How can I fix this?

Answer: This error message comes up if your Application Data environmental variable is not assigned to your computer. To assign this variable in your computer:
  1. Right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.

  2. Go to the Advanced tab and click on the Environmental Variables button.

  3. Here, click on the New button under the System variables, and put the following information in the two boxes:
    Variable Name: APPDATA
    Variable Value: %USERPROFILE%\Application Data

  4. Then click OK, and you should be able to run the Configure Reference Manager program without running into errors.

Another way to potentially resolve this issue is to go to a command prompt in Windows and type the following:

SET APPDATA=%USERPROFILE%\Application Data
