CWYW 31: In Word, I only see the EndNote Web or EndNote tools. How do I get the Reference Manager 12 or later tools to appear?

Answer:

Note: If you have installed the latest Endnote X3 or EndNote web tools, see the patch here.

The EndNote Web and EndNote tools are included with Reference Manager 12 and later.

The tools for EndNote Web or EndNote will be displayed when the tools for Reference Manager 12 and later are not displayed.

To change the settings back to Reference Manager 12, do the following.

Word 2003
  1. Open Word.
  2. Go to the "Tools" menu, choose "EndNote Web" or "EndNote" and select "Cite While You Write Preferences."
  3. Here, go to the "Applications" tab.
  4. Select Reference Manager 12.
  5. Click OK.
Word 2007

  2. Go to the "EndNote Web" or "EndNote" Tab, and select "Preferences."
  3. Here, go to the "Applications" tab.

  5. Click OK.
Note that if Reference Manager 12 is not on the list, the tools may be disabled. Do the following:

Word 2007:
  1. Click on the Office icon and select "Word Options."
  2. Click on "Add-ins."
  3. Change the "Manage" options to "Disabled Items."
  4. Click Go.
  5. Highlight any Reference Manager or Cite While you Write item(s) and click "Enable."
  6. Click OK.

  2. Click "Disabled Items."
  3. Highlight any Reference Manager or Cite While you Write item(s) and click "Enable."
  4. Click Close.
  5. Click OK.

If prompted, select to allow the file(s) to be loaded by Word. Close and re-open Word when this is done.
